What is the difference between Coaching and therapy?

Therapy or counseling, as well as psychiatric services and medication management are very different from coaching. Therapy is led by licensed doctors, therapists and social workers who typically work with their patients to diagnose clinical symptoms, address past trauma and repair destructive habits, creating a more stable future for their patients.

Coaches, whether through general life coaching, academic success coaching, executive coaching or mental health coaching, partner with their clients to define and clarify goals using a thought provoking and creative process. Together, we identify possible obstacles and behaviors that may, or do, get in the way of achieving those goals, creating ways to overcome them in order to create an action plan with achievable and realistic steps to achieve desired results for the present and future.

What is the difference between Academic Success Coaching and tutoring?

Tutoring is such a big help to students who are challenged in one or two subject areas. Academic success coaches have specialized training in addressing executive functioning challenges through skill development. We use proven strategies to overcome these challenges, developing better focus, recall and communication skills, instilling habits to get students back - and remain - on the best path for them academically.

My young adult child is struggling to find their footing. How can Adult Prep help?

These days, there is so much noise, it can be deafening. The instant gratification of social media and online access coupled with higher anxiety levels and decreased personal interaction has created a common ‘failure to launch’ challenge in American society. Partnering with a coach can have fantastic outcomes for this age group, among them increased confidence and enhanced decision-making skills, leading to a more positive outlook on life and their future prospects.

What kinds of life challenges does Coaching help address?

Coaching can be effective on many fronts. Each of our clients is unique, with their own strengths and challenges. The overarching challenges we tend to see the most at Adult Prep are: confidence problems, executive functioning difficulties, ADHD, lack of problem-solving skills, parenting struggles, low resilience/perseverance, anxiety-inducing behaviors or situations, handling life transitions, work stress and school stress.
